Walking for Fun and Health Programme
Circular Common Walk, Thursday 27 July 2017, 4pm
This was the first of our walks and was attended by six enthusiastic walkers including one from Fulbourn – it was lovely to meet new faces! We were very lucky with the weather; after heavy rain earlier in the afternoon and a light shower within minutes of starting the walk, the clouds began to disperse and the sun made a welcome appearance.
We set off from the picnic benches outside Great Wilbraham Social Club and walked to Little Wilbraham, along the High Street to the end of the village, then followed the farm track on the left past the windmill to where the track bends right towards a farm. Here, we turned left off the track and walked beside the field with the ditch to our right, following the footpath as it veers left then right and on to the common via a wooden footbridge. We walked straight ahead and took a circular route around the edge of the common, stopping occasionally to admire the scenery - and to make a few adjustments to clothing instigated by the increasing presence and warmth of the sun!
After reaching the common information board and turning right, we walked through a gate and headed towards the road along the glorious tree-lined footpath, bathed in dappled sunlight squeezing through the soft leaf canopy. We all felt very relaxed!
Thank you to those who attended and contributed to a very enjoyable hour and a half – we ambled along at a very leisurely pace! We look forward to meeting others (old faces and new!) on the remaining walks, details of which can be found here on the Our Events page.
